Chapter 22

James stood inside the cabin, his hands deftly guiding the Woodcraft spell as he put the finishing touches on the new doors and shutters he had fashioned.

The warm glow of the setting sun filtered through the windows, casting a golden hue over the room. As he drove the hinges into the doorposts, the sound of his progress mingled with the creaking of the floorboards and the rustle of leaves outside.

He was thankful for the heating cubes he had made earlier. With the walls newly raised, the house was almost as cold as outside.

He paused, his keen ears catching the sound of footsteps approaching.

The newly crafted door creaked open, and Corinne, Hind, and Kesha stepped inside, their faces alive with surprise and wonder. They had spent the day exploring the woods and were now eager to see the transformation James had wrought.

When their eyes found him, they all lit up and squealed in wonder.

“James, this is amazing!” Corinne exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with admiration. “I can’t believe you did so much in such a short time!”

Kesha chimed in, her voice filled with excitement. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it, James. This is fantastic!”

Hind nodded in agreement, the corners of her eyes crinkling as she smiled. “Yes, it’s like a whole new home. Can we see the new floor?”

“Of course,” James said, shooting his girls a broad smile as he grabbed a lantern. “Follow me!”

With a nod, James led them up the staircase he had crafted earlier, its surface smooth beneath their feet, carrying the lantern. As they reached the second floor, they stepped onto the new floor, its walls and floors the product of his magical mastery.

They stood in awe, taking in the craftsmanship that had gone into every detail of the room. The love and admiration in their eyes warmed James’s heart, and he felt a surge of pride and gratitude.

Corinne, Hind, and Kesha gazed around in awe, their eyes tracing the intricate patterns of the wood grain, the expertly fitted boards, and the sturdy roof overhead.

“This is absolutely incredible, James,” Kesha breathed, her fingers lightly brushing the smooth surface of a beam. “You’ve truly outdone yourself.”

Hind stepped closer; her eyes locked on the sturdy walls. “You must be exhausted. Let us prepare dinner while you rest.”

Gratitude welled up within James, a warm glow that spread through his chest, easing the ache of his tired muscles.

He acquiesced, allowing himself to be led downstairs.

The last thing he did was light a fire. Then he flopped down on the couch.

Corinne and Hind flanked him, their skilled hands working to massage the tension from his weary muscles, their touch like a soothing balm on his frayed nerves.

“That’s perfect,” he moaned, now finally surrendering to his fatigue.

“Well, ya earned it,” Corinne said. “You’re like a machine, James!”

“Truly,” Hind agreed. “I have never seen such work done in a single day! Not even with magic.”

As they spoke, Kesha set to work in the kitchen with an energy that belied the day’s earlier activities.
